about

This short album was recorded with my trio while living in Sevilla, Spain in 2014-2015. It includes original compositions and arrangements from my time in Spain and features a number of excellent musicians and friends I met there. The name "Noche en la Mezquita" refers to the beautiful, historic Cathedral-Mosque of Córdoba, where I lived in 2013-2014. Just as the identity and culture of southern Spain has been shaped by the intersection of different influences, Arabic, African, European, Latin American, Muslim, Jewish, and Christian, the music on this album is the result of a fusion of musical styles. For example, the title track is built around a motif from "Noches en los Jardines de España" by Manuel Falla, a celebrated Spanish classical composer.
